Working to Create Jobs

Solano County's diverse set of vistas -- rivers, ocean inlets, wetlands, plains, hills and valleys -- make it the place people to live, learn, work and play. These perfect views also define the nexus of the county's economy. The breezy plains give lift to the large military aircraft at Travis Air Force Base, and the vast agriculture lands enable farmers to produce more than 80 commodities. Together, they account for $2.5 billion of local economic activity in one of the most diverse economies in the Bay Area.

As the second largest public employer in the county, the County of Solano has a significant economic presence in the county -- employing nearly 2,500 people and administering an annual budget of $760 million. The County's economic impact includes $274 million in payroll, $210 million in local expenditures for Health and Social Services programs and benefits, $5 million in new benefits annually for veterans and $30 million in local construction projects and contracts.
