GARBAGE EXEMPTION APPLICATION PROCESS
On December 7, 2004, the Board of Supervisors approved the revision to the Solano County Chapter 23: Solid Waste, Recyclables and Green Waste Ordinance. This revision included an exemption process which allows the Department of Resource Management, Environmental Health Services Division to issue an exemption from mandatory garbage service collection, to those property owners who wish to haul their own solid waste, or recycle materials in a manner that does not create nuisuance and is consistent with Chapter 23.

Unincorporated County garbage exemption

Applications must be submitted to the Department of Resource Management by February 18, 2005. Completing an application for exemption does not guarantee approval. Environmental Health staff will review the application and waste management/recycling plan and conduct an on-site visit to insure that property owners who wish to haul their own solid waste or recycle materials in a manner that does not create public nuisance or health risk conditions and is consistent with Chapter 23.

Applications for exemptions are subject to the following criteria:
1. The occupant shall recycle all, or virtually all solid waste, recyclables and green waste produced on the premises; or

2. Every unit on the property is vacant for a period of more than 2 consecutive months, no solid waste or recyclables will be produced during the exemption period, and a plan for proper removal and recycling or disposal of green waste is provided.
