HIKING
Fourth Saturday of every month 9 a.m. - Noon

A docent will lead a hike of Lynch Canyon that includes Indian grinding rocks, wooded stream sides, and panoramic vistas. Hike is free, and always entertaining with information on history, plants, geology, habitats, wildlife and geology of the site.

BIRD WATCHING
Docent and avid birder Earl Swenerton will lead a birding tour of Lynch Canyon. The group will leave from the parking lot soon after 9 and hike about 2.5 miles of moderately difficult trails with lots of breaks to observe the season's wildlife in a variety of habitats.

Bring your binoculars, water and a snack if you'd like. Wear sturdy shoes and be prepared for winter wather. Earl will bring a spotting scope for better viewing.

We should see plenty of migrating birds, especially raptors, from golden eagles to a migratory hawks and falcons, plus seasonal warblers, juncos, sparrows and a good selection of waterfowl at the reservoir.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Prospective volunteers interested in guiding tours of the beautiful 1,000 plus acre Lynch Canyon Open Space in Western Solano County

Trained docents will learn how to safely and confidently guide a wide variety of park users from hikers and students to equestrians and birders through Lynch?s rolling grasslands and bird-filled groves of native trees with spectacular ridge top views. Prior experience or knowledge is not required, just a willingness to learn and share.

The free training will include information about the area?s plants, birds, ecology, history, and geology, as well as tips on how to prepare and present a fun program and interpret this amazing natural site for visitors. Docents are asked to lead at least 2 classes or tours per year at Lynch. Training will also be offered for other Land Trust sites where docents are needed including the vernal pools of Jepson Prairie Preserve, the native American (Patwin) program and historic blacksmith shop at Rush Ranch, and tours of King and Swett Ranches that are open only with staff or docent guides.
