Mental health is just as important for children as it is for adults. Millions of children live with mental health disorders and do not receive the help they need. Some mental health disorders in children include anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Early identification of mental health disorders can help treatment be more effective since many disorders will continue into adulthood.
Some symptoms to look for – changes in sleep pattern, difficult paying attention, impaired communication, etc.

Consult with your pediatrician if one or more of these symptoms are present, as not all children showing these symptoms have a mental health disorder.
If your child has a mental health disorder it is important that they do not feel alone or different. Be willing to answer your child’s questions and keep communication open. Talk with your health care provider for ways to approach situations and develop a plan.
