County residents may have unclaimed money

May 20, 2016

SOLANO COUNTY – More than 900 Solano County residents and businesses have unclaimed money that is owed to them by the County, totaling more than $284,000.

Under California Government Code Section 50050/50057, funds that become the property of a local agency that remain unclaimed for three years become the property of the local agency after notice if not claimed or if no verified complaint is filed and served.

In an effort to help claimants gain access to their unclaimed money, the Solano County Auditor-Controller's Office has put together an unclaimed money database.  The department is encouraging everyone to search the unclaimed money database, making it easy to see if the Controller is protecting funds in their name.

"We’ve made it easy for folks to search the unclaimed money database," says Simona Padilla-Scholtens, Solano County Auditor-Controller.  “Unclaimed payments range from $2 to more than $30,000 – so I encourage everyone to take a look – you never know.”

Searching and filing for unclaimed money is easy.  Follow these three simple steps, including:

(1)  Visit www.SolanoCounty.com and click on the “Unclaimed Money” link under “Popular Links.”

(2)  Search for your last name or business name in the unclaimed money database

(3)  Fully complete the “Unclaimed Money Affidavit” and mail to the Auditor-Controller’s Office

For more information about the unclaimed money database program, including California Government Code 50050/50057 state-mandated guidelines, contact the Auditor-Controller’s Office by calling (707) 784-6280 and pressing option one, or by email at [email protected].
