County reaches a late night tentative agreement with SEIU after 10-hour mediation session with State mediator

November 20, 2015

SOLANO COUNTY – County officials and the SEIU Local 1021 negotiating teams met with the California state appointed mediator today in an effort to reach a deal for a successor labor contract, and those efforts have been successful.  After a lengthy process, the parties have reached a tentative agreement.

"Today's meeting with the state mediator was helpful in resolving the remaining two issues in dispute," said Marc Fox, Solano County Human Resources Director.  “We are pleased to report the session was productive and we have reached a tentative labor agreement that we can recommend to the Board of Supervisors.”

Details of the tentative agreement will be recommended to the County Board of Supervisors at the Tuesday, November 24 meeting.  SEIU leadership will recommend ratification of the new contract during the voting process.

“I am very pleased with the progress made and thank the union leadership and the State-appointed mediator for their efforts today,” said Birgitta E. Corsello, Solano County Administrator.  “My hope is that we will have a labor contract before the December holiday.”

Established in 1947 to prevent labor disputes and promote harmonious union-management relationships, mediation is a non-binding process in which a neutral mediator from the State Mediation and Conciliation Service (SMCS) helps the parties resolve their disputes over a contract.  SMCS is part of the California Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) and provides labor mediation services to employers and unions free of charge.
