County seeks individuals to serve on the Assessment Appeals Board to conduct property assessment disputes

SOLANO COUNTY – The County is looking for individuals interested in serving on the Assessment Appeals Board.  A position on the Board requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in the State of California as one of the following: 

n 
Certified Public Accountant or Public Accountant
n  Licensed Real Estate Broker
n  Attorney at Law
n  Property Appraiser accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization
n  Property Appraiser certified by the Office of Real Estate Appraisers
n  Property Appraiser certified by the State Board of Equalization

Individuals appointed to the Assessment Appeals Board are required to complete a self-study training course and will meet approximately once a month to hear appeals on real and personal property.  

Compensation for Board duties includes:
n  $100 per half day
n  $200 for a full day
n  $400 per day per consecutive hearing days due to complex assessment appeal cases
n  $25 per hour for document review and preparation time for complex assessment appeal cases

About the Assessment Appeals Board
The Solano County Assessment Appeals Board is a quasi-judicial body composed of three members appointed by the Board of Supervisors to conduct hearings on property assessment disputes.  Acting based on relevant evidence submitted at the hearing, it is the role of this board to make a fair, impartial decision on all property assessment disputes appealed between taxpayers and the County Assessor’s Office.
