Elena D'Agustino, Solano County Public Defender,  became Solano County's Public Defender, September 22, 2019.  Ms. D'Agustino has been a Solano County Deputy Public Defender since 1998. She was promoted to Chief Deputy Public Defender, October 3, 2010, and then to Interim Public Defender, February 24, 2019.  During Ms. D'Agustino's tenure, she has supervised both felony and misdemeanor attorneys and represented clients in dozens of jury trials for all types of crimes.  Ms. D'Agustino obtained her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in New York.  As a law student, she interned with the Legal Aid Society, Criminal Defense Division, in Manhattan.  Ms. D'Agustino received her B.S. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

 



Thomas A. Barrett
was promoted to Chief Deputy of the Alternate Defender Office on October 22, 2018.  Mr. Barrett received his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in History, from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995, and his J.D. from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1998.  While in law school, Mr. Barrett was a member of the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse, a clinical program that assists indigent defendants in pending capital cases in Virginia, eventually becoming program editor.  After law school, Mr. Barrett worked for three years at the United States District Court of California, Northern District, as a capital habeas law clerk where he advised and assisted federal district court judges on adjudicating capital habeas petitions.   In October 2001, he joined the Napa County Public Defender office as a deputy public defender.  In May 2007, Mr. Barrett joined the Solano County Public Defender Office where he worked until May 2013, when he moved to the Solano County Alternate Defender Office.
