County Exhibit takes top award at California State Fair

July 8, 2016

SOLANO COUNTY– Year after year the Counties Exhibit is ranked by visitors as one of the most popular attractions at the California State Fair.  With a long history of competition at the fair, the 2016 Solano County exhibit didn't disappoint, taking home the top award – the Best of Show.

The exhibit – entitled "Solano County Delivers," promotes a positive image of the county’s rich agricultural history, industry, entertainment, recreation and tourism destinations to tens of thousands of Californian’s that visit the fair every day through a unique and engaging display.

The 360-degree exhibit experience features a series of rotating stages, each promoting unique attractions within the county using video, sounds, lighting and whimsical displays.  Highlights include Solano’s many outdoor recreation gems, rich agricultural crops, tourist attractions, cities, wineries, Travis Air Force Base, art scenes and entertainment hot spots.

As is the tradition for Solano County, the exhibit integrates a unique learning environment with fun and friendly volunteers.  Visitors can pick up educational brochures to help them learn more about the County in which they live, or plan a future vacation.  Also, be sure to get your FREE samples from Jelly Belly.

Recognized by the California State Fair Counties Exhibit judges as the top award recipient, Solano County also took home its 15th Gold Award for excellence and the coveted Division One Award for craftsmanship.  The awards, including ribbons and the California State Fair “Golden Bear” will be proudly on display at the County Administration Center, 675 Texas Street in Fairfield for all to see.

In addition to the Best of Show and Gold Awards, Solano County has a long standing tradition of taking home the “People’s Choice Award,” with more than 10 victories in the past 15 years.  Determined by fairgoers, the award goes to the county with the most votes during the fair’s run.  The recipient of the 2016 People’s Choice Award will be announced later this month.  This year the California State Fair runs through July 24.

After the conclusion of the California State Fair, the Solano County exhibit will be on display at the Solano County Fair, hosted July 27 – 31 at the Solano County Fairgrounds, 900 Fairgrounds Drive in Vallejo.  For more information and tickets to the Solano County Fair visit www.SCFair.org.
