County Recorder begins issuing vital records again

November 24, 2015

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County Assessor Recorders Office announced today that it has received its first shipment of Bank Note paper and has resumed issuing birth, death and marriage certificates to the public.

When the nationwide paper shortage began earlier this summer, the Recorder's Office limited walk-in customers to one vital record.  With receipt of this order, walk-in customers are no longer limited in their purchase of vital records.

"I am so glad we’re back up and running again," said Marc Tonnesen, Solano County Assessor – Recorder.  “I want to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”

In the beginning of November, during the shortage, the Recorder’s office accepted pre-payment orders and mail-in applications.  The prepaid orders and mail in requests will be processed in the order they were received.  The Recorder’s Office anticipates resolving the backlog of requests within two weeks.

“Because the paper shortage caught everyone off guard,” Tonnesen says, “My office, in addition to other state and local agencies, are all working on a long-term solution, minimizing the chance of this ever happening again.”

The Vital Records section of the Solano County Recorder’s Office is open to the public Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
