Solano County public facility wins prestigious awards

April 10, 2014

Solano County was recently awarded the Public Projects of the Year and People’s Choice Awards by the California Counties Architects and Engineers Association (CCAEA) for the design of the William J. Carroll Government Center in Vacaville.

As one of only three counties in the state to receive the prestigious awards, the facility was selected based on a rigorous eight step evaluation process, including value and cost savings, community and employee enhancement, aesthetics, sustainability, innovation, creative funding and public-private partnerships.

“This project represents the best that public sector architects and project managers do every day for their communities,”
said Rob Unholz, President of the CCAEA.  “We are delighted to bestow this award in recognition of their efforts.”

The 38,864-square-foot facility boasts a public health clinic and dental clinic; employment and eligibility services; mental health services; women, infants and children services; special inspection bureau; substance abuse services; public health nurse; child welfare services; and older and disabled adult services.

“I’m extremely proud of this building, my staff, and the collaboration among government agencies to make this facility a reality,”
said Birgitta Corsello, Solano County Administrator.  “The William J. Carroll Government Center will completely transform how we serve the public – and it’s gratifying to be recognized for that.”

During the ceremony, counties were recognized for their achievements in developing municipal and public projects that benefit the community, are environmentally sustainable, improve workforce productivity and contribute to the local economy.

Located on the second floor of the County Administration Center at 675 Texas St. in Fairfield, the Department of General Services provides customers with reliable, quality and innovative services that promote Solano County as a safe and healthy place to live, learn, work and play.
