April 12, 2012

More than 150 people are still needed to work at precincts at polling locations in the upcoming primary on June 5. "It takes 700 citizens to help conduct a presidential primary election, and we are still a little short," said Assistant Registrar of Voters Lindsey McWilliams.

Poll workers must be registered to vote in California, willing to attend a mandatory training session prior to the election, able to arrange for their own transportation to and from training and to and from the polling place, and be available to work Election Day from 6 a.m. to approximately 9:30 p.m. The Registrar also has a poll worker program for high school students who need not be registered to vote but have met the other requirements.

Mandatory training provides all the knowledge and skills needed to do the job; however, people savvy with computers and new technology are desired to serve as electronic roster clerks.

For their Election Day duties and training commitment, poll workers receive a stipend. Precinct clerks can receive up to $135 and inspectors up to $165.

The Registrar is reaching out to prospective poll workers with an online application.  To fill out an application, go to www.solanocounty.com/elections and click on the “Work The Polls!” icon.  Or, stop by the Registrar of Voters Office at 675 Texas Street, Suite 2600, in Fairfield.
