County to honor children who have been lost to violence

April 18, 2019

SOLANO COUNTY – The Solano County District Attorney, together with the Solano County Family Justice Center and the Solano Children's Alliance, invite the public to participate in Children’s Memorial Flag Day on Friday, April 26 from noon – 1 p.m. in front of the Solano County Health and Social Services building, 275 Beck Ave., Fairfield to honor children who have been lost to violence.

Beginning in 1998, the Child Welfare League of America launched a public awareness campaign to direct attention to the tragedy of child deaths as part of a national initiative to reduce child mortality.  Every year since then, on the last Friday in April, communities across the United States raise the Children’s Memorial Flag, an honor to every child lost.

The Children’s Memorial Flag will be raised promptly at noon.  Guest speakers include District One Supervisor and Chairwoman of the Board Erin Hannigan, District Attorney Krishna Abrams, Health and Social Services Director Jerry Huber – followed by a moment of silence led by Pastor Shamar Lewis.

Participants are invited to place written thoughts for children around the Garden of Hope, which will be on display at the event.  Light refreshments will be provided.
