Volunteers needed to staff County exhibit at CA State Fair

May 19, 2017

SOLANO COUNTY – The public is invited to volunteer their time to help staff the Solano County exhibit at the California State Fair, running July 14 – 30 at the Cal Expo fairgrounds, 1600 Exposition Blvd. in Sacramento.

"Volunteers are an essential component of the Solano County exhibit, interacting with visitors and helping showcase the bounty that is Solano County," says Matthew Davis, Solano County Senior Management Analyst and Public Communications Officer.  “In addition to being part of a fascinating, educational and entertaining County exhibit, volunteers receive free admission to the fair, a free parking pass and free t-shirt – just a way for us to thank you to them for donating their time.”

This year's exhibit will feature a 360-degree visitor experience, created to navigate visitors through the Solano County experience.  The exhibit will feature a series of recognizable Solano County landmarks, locally grown agricultural products, arts and entertainment destinations, tourist hot spots, recreational areas and cultural activities – designed to move and shine with whimsical delight.

There are many timeslots to fill, including weekday and weekend shifts.  Two volunteers are needed to staff each shift, and therefore the public is encouraged to sign up right away – as they will fill up quickly. Volunteer shifts are available during the following timeframes, including:

Monday through Thursday shifts:
11 a.m. – 2 p.m. (3 hours)
2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (4 hours)
6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (4 hours)

Friday through Sunday shifts:
10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (4 hours)
2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (4 hours)
6 p.m. – 10 p.m. (4 hours)

“We make it easy for folks to become Solano County ambassador volunteers,” says Dennis Gunvalson, partner at the Richard Bay Puppet Theatre Company and Volunteer and Logistics Manager for the Solano County exhibit.  “Once we get you signed up, we provide an optional training session and all the materials and information you will need to be successful.”

SIGN UP TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Sign up to become a volunteer by calling Mr. Gunvalson at (916) 712-7527 or by email at [email protected].  In compliance with Megan’s Law, volunteers will be required to provide their full name, date of birth, driver license number and zip code.  The deadline to sign up to become a volunteer is Thursday, May 25 by 3 p.m.
