Welcome to Solano County’s home on the Internet. On behalf of all who serve the public through the offices of County government, I encourage you to explore the information available on this website.
The links on this home page will lead you to general information on the County’s departments and their activities and will assist you in accessing the services we offer to residents and visitors. From here, you can also access the County’s latest public announcements, special reports and websites of the County’s seven city governments. The work of our County departments is guided by Solano County’s mission, as expressed by the Board of Supervisors, “…to serve the people and to provide a safe and healthy place to live, learn, work and play.”
The people who live, learn work or play here know that Solano County is a special place, combining an inviting mix of rural and suburban lifestyles with easy access to urban amenities. Located mid-way between two of the nation’s most dynamic metropolitan regions - San Francisco and Sacramento – it is an area rich in history and opportunity. Solano County - one of California’s 27 original counties at the time of statehood in 1850 – has a proud pioneer heritage. The cities of Vallejo and Benicia both served as California’s capital before its final move to Sacramento in 1854. The legendary Pony Express ran through Dixon, Vacaville Fairfield and Suisun, uniting East with West even as the Civil War divided North from South. Rio Vista’s residents completely rebuilt their city on higher ground after a devastating 1862 flood.
That frontier courage set the course for Solano County’s future. Our 1850 population numbered fewer than 600; today, nearly 425,000 residents make their homes here. While nearly two thirds of the County’s acreage remains dedicated to agricultural production and open space, national leaders in the healthcare, finance, technology and biotechnology industries have found this a welcoming place to establish their own roots.
Our county government supports those families, farmers and firms with its vision of Solano County as a place that will be “…locally and nationally recognized for its partnerships and leadership in providing innovative, effective and fiscally responsible services that result in the highest quality of life for its residents.” That vision is rooted in our values, expressed by the Solano County IDEAL values of “Integrity, Dignity, Excellence, Accountability and Leadership.”
