Can I change my name on my birth certificate?
Yes, however a court order may be required.

Can I get a copy of my Divorce decree? / Does the County have records of divorce?
No, Vital records does not carry divorce records. You will need to contact Family Law at 707.207.7340.

Can I get an Informational copy?
Yes, like a certified copy only there is an overlay stating that this certificate is not valid to establish identity. Anyone can obtain an informational copy of a certificate as long as they provide the correct information (full name and date of event) on the application. Fee is the same as a certified copy. ID and Notary are not required for informational copy.

FYI, informational copies are useful for conducting genealogy research.

Can I get an original/replacement copy of my birth certificate with a raised seal?
Yes, all certified and informational copies (either ordered in person, mail/internet) have raised seals

Can I order by mail?
Yes. We can send them the application needed or they can download the form online. Download and print the appropriate application sworn statement and get the sworn statement notarized.  If you are ordering the following please include: Birth Certificate- Send $21.00 with the completed application and notarized sworn statement. Death Certificate- Send $14.00 with the completed application and notarized sworn statement. Marriage Certificate- Send $16.00 with the completed application and notarized sworn statement.. Check or Money Order should be made out to “Vital Records.” Upon receipt of the completed application with payment included, the certificate(s) will be issued and mailed in approximately 8 to 10 business 
 days.

Can I order Online?
Yes, through VitalChek and with a credit card. There is an additional fee of 6.00 by VitalChek plus the cost of the certified copy. You may access VitalChek through the Solano County website (www.solanocounty.com)

Can I pay with my credit card without going online?
"Yes. 1) Print out application and sworn statement 2) Get it sworn statement notarized 3) Write credit card # and expiration date on application (additional $6.00 charge) 4) Fax to (707) 784-9002 Upon receipt of the completed application and notarized sworn statement, the certificate(s) will be issued and mailed in approximately three working days. If you want it sent by Fed Ex you must indicate on fax (additional $20.00) "

Can I view a certificate?
Yes, anyone can view a certificate. Viewing can only be done in the office and cannot be sent through the mail. There is no fee for viewing. The customer will need to know the correct information (full name and date of event), fill out an application, and view the certificate in front of the employee. The certificate is returned and no photocopies are allowed.

Can you give me directions?

Do you have (name)’s birth, death, marriage certificate?
Birth and death are not public record. That information cannot be disclosed. After 4-6 weeks of the event it should be in our records.

Do you have my birth certificate as I was adopted?
Yes, however we may have to request a copy from the State, and may take an additional 10 to 14 days to process. When completing the application, please make a note that you were adopted and include your mother's maiden name.

How to obtain a certified copy of (birth, death, marriage) certificate in person?
1) Fill out application (includes person’s full name and date of birth/death/marriage)
2) Person requesting the copy must show picture ID.
3) Pay Fee (Cash, pre-printed checks, or Money Order.  Check or Money Order should be made out to “Vital Records.” Note: Make sure the event (birth/death) took place in Solano County. For marriage, make sure the license was purchased in Solano County.  (Note: Confidential marriages are not public record and can only be requested by specific individuals through the County Clerk's Office.)

No, we only have records for Solano County. If you were born in another county, you may call Vital Records at 707-784-6294 and ask for the County phone number and/or website.

If you are a U.S. citizen born overseas (i.e. military base) you must contact passport services in Washington D.C. 202.955.0307 .

What are your fees?
Birth Certificate - $21.00 per certified copy Marriage Certificate - $16.00 per certified copy Death Certificate - $14.00 per certified copy.

What are your office hours?
The Vital Records Counter is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10am to  3pm (excluding holidays).

Who can obtain a copy of a birth/death certificate?
Birth and Death are not public records. Only Parents, legal guardians (must have proof of guardianship), the person themselves (registrant), child, grandparent/grandchild, sibling, spouse, registered domestic partner, licensed attorney/agency, or a member of a governmental agency can obtain a certified copy. Note: Step-parents, foster parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. are unable to obtain a copy.

Who can obtain a copy of a marriage certificate?
Marriage certificates are not public record. Only parents, legal guardians (must have proof of guardianship), the person themselves (registrant), child, grandparent/cgrandchild, sibling, spouse, registered domestic partner, licensed attorney/agency, or a member of a governmental agency can obtain a certified copy. The county in which the license was purchased holds the record. Confidential Marriages  can only be requested by specific individuals from the County Clerk's Office.

Why can’t I find the death certificate for someone who lived in Solano County? / Does a Death Certificate get recorded in the county where someone lived or in the county they were pronounced dead?
Death Certificates are recorded in the county where the individual was pronounced dead.

Will I be able to receive my copy right there if I go in person?
Yes, depending on the line it will take 15-30 minutes.
