Countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan Documents

The California Integrated Waste Management  Act of 1989, as amended, is also commonly referred to as Assembly Bill 939.  This statute requires every California jurisdiction to divert 50% of its solid waste annually from landfill based upon a jurisdiction's planning documents known as the Countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan.  This plan consists of the following five elements:

1. Countywide Siting Element (CSE)

2. Countywide Non-Disposal Facility Element (NDFE)

3. Source Reduction and Recycling Element (SRRE)
4. Household Hazardous Waste Element (HHWE)
5. Summary Plan (SP)
