Public Health Laboratory

On October 30, 2009, the Solano County public health laboratory was relocated to the newly constructed building at the main H&SS campus in Fairfield. The staff is very excited about the move to the new lab. The availability of multiple biological safety cabinets that meets higher specifications and staff access to a better networking system will prepare as much better for any increased capacity testing.

We look to a continued building of partnerships with local public health teams, Travis AFB, State prison and Hospital, Sutter Solano Hospital, Kaiser, North Bay Hospital, local physicians and other community partners. The new laboratory also means continuing enhanced supportive efforts of Solano and Napa County Health Departments in the detection control and prevention of communicable diseases by performing the routine essential public health laboratory services. The new laboratory employs more advanced laboratory instrumentation that will provide more testing at higher level. Other examples of the services at the new laboratory are antibiotics drug susceptibility by VITEK, Serology and immunology by Evolis, molecular PCR testing by Roche, definitive Mycobateria identification by HPLC, Mycology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, foodborne illness examinations, Rabies FRA, Tick testing for Lyme disease, chemistry and bacteriology testing of drinking and surface water.
