Description
The Adolescent Resource Network (ARN) was established in 1991. ARN collaborates with the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Branch and Adolescent Family Life Program (AFLP). ARN focus is to advocate, network, and problem-solve issues that impact teens.
Mission
The Adolescent Resource Network is committed to improving adolescent services and community awareness through communication, education, outreach, and recommendations to the MCAH Advisory Board.
Gaps/Challenges
  • Community resistance in addressing teen sexual health issues and pregnancy prevention strategies
  • Lack of participation from teachers and school administrators
  • Lack of school on-site childcare; model after Vallejo Unified School District
  • Lack of housing for teen parents
  • Lack of health services for undocumented teens
Goals/Focus
  • Advocate access to health services for adolescents.
  • Increase awareness about teen violence.
  • Increase awareness about teen pregnancy and teen pregnancy prevention.
  • Increase teen awareness about available services.
Goals/Objectives:

To improve referral services for teens· Continue to collaborate with participating agencies Increase teen participation in health services· Link teens to Solano Healthy Kids Program· Promote healthy teens and the importance of regular physical exams· Increase providers awareness and services available to teens· Partner with health care providers to increase awareness about teen health issues Increase awareness of adolescent services within the community· Conduct county-wide outreach to schools and community partners and disseminate information about programs and services available to teens· Hold annual ARN open house to bring together teen service providers Increase awareness of needs for mental health services for all teens· Identify mental health services for teens and how to access services· Increase awareness of teen mental health issues in the community· Build relationships with mental health providers Strengthen the network of ARN participants· Continue to update ARN Directory for ARN participants· Continue to review the adequacy of ARN schedule of meetingsparticipants· Continue to identify providers and invite them to ARN meetings· Build ARN participation and representation of agencies serving teens
