| | | Marc's Biography  | Marc Tonnesen Assessor/Recorder | ![]() | | Marc Tonnesen was first elected Solano County Assessor/Recorder in June 2006, then re-elected in 2010. He brings to the office more than 27 years of experience in both the private and public sectors as a real estate appraiser, broker, and manager. Prior to being elected, Marc served as Acting Assessor/Recorder and Assistant Assessor/Recorder. Since taking office, Marc has improved relationships with many of the County's principal stakeholders and implemented programs to improve the overall efficiency of the office. Since 2008, he has proactively adjusted the value of tens of thousands of properties throughout the County thus assuring each property owner of paying the correct amount of property tax. He works one-on-one with business owners to assure their property taxes are fair and reflect the correct value. In an effort to continue to improve efficiency, Marc implemented an image conversion program that makes recorded documents more readily available electronically and a social security redaction program that helps combat identity theft. Plans for the future include additional automated assessment programs, an imaging program for assessment records, and implementing an electronic recording delivery system. Marc continues to make positive changes within the office despite the troubled economy and shrinking resources Marc’s professional career began in the early 1980's as a private real estate appraiser in Solano County. In 1986, he accepted a position with the State Department of Savings and Loan where he investigated appraisal abuses in Northern and Central California. In 1988, Marc transferred to the State Department of General Services where he negotiated real estate leases throughout California. In 2001, he was promoted to Senior Real Estate Officer where his focused was expanded to include large and politically sensitive real estate transactions statewide. In March 2003, he was recruited to be Assistant Assessor/Recorder for Solano County. Marc is a member of the California Assessors’ Association where he serves as secretary and the Bay Area Assessors’ Association where he serves as president. He is also a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers and active in the County Recorders' Association of California. Marc is a Certified General Appraiser with the California Office of Real Estate Appraisers and holds an advanced appraiser’s certificate issued by the State Board of Equalization. In 1994, he was awarded the SRA designation by the Appraisal Institute of Chicago. Marc has a bachelor's degree in business administration. Marc is a native Solano County resident and proud member of a pioneer family that has been part of the county for five generations. He has two adult children, Kelsey and Brian, and grandbaby Zoey, the newest member of the family. | | |
