Free programs at Lake Solano get visitors exploring nature
Have you stepped outside recently to hear all of the bird songs that are filling our trees? When was the last time you paddled along a creek and saw turtles, or herons? Visit Lake Solano Park over the next two weekends for free guided events that are guaranteed to get you outside, having fun, and learning something new!
Friday, September 21 – Sunday, September 23 is one of the rare Docent-in-Residence Weekends at the Park. A volunteer Docent will be camping out all weekend leading back-to-back events for the whole family! Long-time Docent Carla Murphy has a canoe tour, stargazing program, and more fun planned:
Friday, 7:30 PM: Campfire Program
Saturday, 8:15 AM: Guided Canoe Tour (registration required)
Saturday, 11:00 AM: Guided Nature & History Walk
Saturday, 7:30 PM: Stargazing Program
Sunday, 11:00 AM: Roving Docents Cart
The events continue the next weekend on Saturday, September 29 with a guided tour introducing visitors to the fall birds at Lake Solano Park. California is a major highway for migrating birds, and we’ve got quite the assortment of fall travelers, in town. Join Lake Solano Docents John Mott-Smith and Cathi Christo to learn all about these visiting birds, as well as the feathered friends that stay year-round!
The September 29 bird walk begins at 8:00 AM at the Lake Solano Nature Center. This tour will be a great opportunity to have fun, learn, and get some fresh air while enjoying the gorgeous spring! Loaner binoculars will be available.
All events are family-friendly and free! Parking at Lake Solano Park is $6.00, payable at the entrance kiosk on the day use side.
