Putah Creek Council, a local non-profit dedicated to the protection and enhancement of Putah creek and its tributaries, is hosting a special once-a-year training for new and returning Lake Solano Docents. The training will be held over two events on Saturday, October 24^th from 9am – 12:00pm at the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area in Davis and on Saturday, October 31^st from 9am – 1:00pm at Lake Solano Park in Winters.

Putah Creek Council is hosting a two-day training workshop for new and returning Lake Solano Docents. We seek enthusiastic nature lovers of all backgrounds to join this group of committed volunteers.

Lake Solano Docents are passionate nature enthusiasts who assist Lake Solano Rangers in interpreting, restoring and preserving the natural and cultural history of Lake Solano by leading interpretive hikes, and helping with trail and native flora restoration projects. Docents are responsible for inspiring visitors and helping the public learn about the wonderful resources at Lake Solano Park in Winters, CA.

Two orientation sessions will be held prior to the training days to allow prospective docents to ask questions and learn more about the program. These are held on Tuesday, October 13 at the Winters Community Library and on Wednesday, October 14 at the Davis Veterans Memorial Theater Game Room.

The docent training days are on October 24 and October 31, and new docents are recommended to attend both training days as different topics will be covered each day. Training topics include an overview of the Putah Creek watershed, local flora and fauna, Native American history, field safety, and an in-depth look at the basics of interpretation.
