EAGLES, HAWKS AND OTHER BIRDS OF PREY HIKES AT LYNCH CANYON
Departments - Resource Management - Parks
Location: Lynch Canyon Open Space
3100 Lynch Canyon Rd, American Canyon, CA, 94503
Lynch Canyon is home to golden eagles and hawks. It is also a magnet for migrating and over-wintering birds of prey. It provides these raptors with over 1,000 undeveloped acres where they can hunt and rest. Some feathered visitors come from as far away as the Arctic Circle. Learn more by joining Larry Broderick and team for birds of prey hikes at Lynch Canyon on Sunday, October 4 and Sunday, October 18. Both hikes are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lynch Canyon is located at 3100 Lynch Canyon Rd., off McGary Rd., between Fairfield and Vallejo. Each hike’s cost is $10 per person (payable when registering) plus $6 per vehicle (payable at the park). Space is limited and pre-registration is preferred. Visit the events calendar at solanolandtrust.org for details and to register, or call 707-432-0150, extension 200.

Broderick is a talented teacher and brings more than 25 years of experience researching, rescuing and rehabilitating birds of prey. He is able to distinguish a ferruginous hawk from a red-tailed hawk or a prairie falcon from a peregrine falcon from great distances. Participants will learn identification tips for resident and over-wintering birds of prey. Raptors seen on past hikes include golden eagles, bald eagles, rough-legged hawks, Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, ferruginous hawks, peregrine falcons, prairie falcons and other more common raptors.

Lynch Canyon is owned by Solano Land Trust and is part of the Solano County Parks system. Because it is a wilderness area and working cattle ranch, pets are not allowed. Solano Land Trust protects land to ensure a healthy environment, keep ranching and farming families on their properties, and inspire a love of the land.
